School Resource Officer

In 2021, the City secured a State Tobacco Grant to fund a School Resource Officer (SRO) at Cypress middle and high schools for three years, and a tobacco retailer compliance program to decrease youth access to tobacco products. The grant will reimburse the City for funding one Police Officer position for Fiscal Year 2021-22 through Fiscal Year 2023-24. Under the terms of the grant, the SRO will provide tobacco-related education, outreach, and enforcement to students at Lexington Junior High School, Cypress High School, and Oxford Academy.

SRO Martinez is Cypress' newest School Resource Officer. Prior to becoming a sworn peace officer, SRO Martinez worked for the Cypress Police Department as a police cadet and a police services officer. She then joined the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department, excelling as a Sheriff's Deputy. Now back in Cypress, Officer Martinez is part of the department’s social media team and an advisor for the Cypress Police Explorer Post 10-36. Stop by and say hi when you see her in the community!

SRO Martinez can be reached at cypd@cypressca.org.
