The City of Cypress, located in northwestern Orange County on the Los Angeles County border, prides itself as being an ideal place to live coupled with having a solid and diverse economy supported by a skilled and educated workforce. Cypress is sometimes described as one of Orange County’s “Best Kept Secrets.” The City maintains a very successful business park which includes many well known corporations. The park serves as a key source of commerce for Orange County, encompassing over 800 acres of master planned, professional, and high-end industrial development.

The City of Cypress is just five miles from some of Southern California’s nicest beaches, is a community of well-planned and maintained residential neighborhoods, and has a citizenry with a strong sense of community pride. For example, the Cypress Community Festival is one of the largest events in the City. Covering almost 7 square miles, Cypress has a population of approximately 50,000. Cypress has 100 acres of park space, and virtually every resident is within walking distance of a neighborhood park. Cypress Community College, which is well known for excellent academic, theatre arts, and sports programs, is located within the City. Police Department Overview

In addition to the Office of the Chief of Police, the Cypress Police Department is divided into two divisions: Support Services and Operations. Management and supervision is provided by a Chief, two Captains, two Lieutenants, ten Sergeants, and a civilian supervisor. Forty-one of the Department's fifty-five sworn personnel are dedicated to the delivery of patrol services. In addition to the fifty-five officers, the department is supported by twenty-three civilian employees and numerous volunteers and an annual budget of approximately $22 million.

The Department prides itself on the wide range of specialty services it provides the community including a detective bureau, canine teams, narcotics team, vice and intelligence, motorcycle officers, Personnel & Training, P.A.C.E. program, and S.W.A.T. In addition, the Department has established Community Policing, or Cypress Policing, as the philosophy for providing public safety services.

Police dispatch services for the City of Cypress are provided by the West Cities Police Communications Center, also known as West-Comm. West-Comm is a consolidated police dispatch center, formed by a Joint Powers Authority between the cities of Cypress, Los Alamitos and Seal Beach. Located at the Seal Beach Police Department, West-Comm serves a combined population of approximately 90,000 and handles approximately 100,000 calls for service each year.
